Three New Haven Parks To Rest, Relax, And Play

It seems that every city is getting less and less green. The need for new shopping and new places to live seem to outweigh the need for parks and recreation. However, New Haven has not fallen into that category yet. There are several gorgeous parks spread throughout the city that are the perfect place to rest or to bring the kids to play. Today, we are going to look at three of the best in New Haven.

If you are looking for the best park in New Haven to lose yourself, check out East Rock Park. You will feel like you are a million miles away. It is an excellent place to hike and enjoy nature. There are nice long hikes that will take you to the top and give you incredible views of the entire city. It is also a wonderful place to visit if you are looking to catch a glimpse of warblers before they migrate. It is best to arrive in the early morning for stunning views and fewer crowds. If you are not feeling so adventurous, there is great playground equipment available for the little ones.

If you are looking for a central park in New Haven, you will want to visit the New Haven Green. This is a standard park for a city with beautiful views of Yale. There are plenty of picnic tables, room to room and easy parking. The best time to enjoy this park is during the holiday season when the city tree has been decorated. You will truly enjoy the warmth of a New England Christmas. There are also several festivals throughout the year, so check with a local calendar as to those dates. Unfortunately, like so many city parks, this one can be dangerous. So take care and do not explore during night hours if you are not from the area nor know your way around.

If you are looking for a park to step back in time to, visit Edgerton Park. This once was a gorgeous private estate, but over the years was turned into a public park. There are fun events such as Shakespeare in the park and concerts under the stars. There are a few rolling hills for the kids to enjoy and roll down as well. The park is in need of a little TLC, but it is still a fine place to spend an afternoon.
